My Philosophy
My belief is that everyone is musical and can hone musical ability. Music is inherent to our experiences as human beings - we use and respond to tones and pitches every day when we speak; our actions and even our bodies function in rhythms and patterns. Why should it be different to use these same skills on an instrument like the piano or the violin? It’s already inside of us; these skills can be strengthened like a muscle. I like to help my students approach their musicianship intuitively and think about the natural physics, anatomy, mentality, and sensibility that goes into playing their instrument.
I also believe that it is important to understand that music is the language of emotion. This understanding is what is primarily important in musicianship - music tells stories, it expresses things that are often only felt otherwise. I encourage my students to listen to a lot of music to understand the language of music and develop their own relationship with it.
Trust is a huge ingredient in quality music instruction, so another part of my approach is to get to know my students’ unique personalities and learning styles to find the right ways of explaining things, pacing, and engaging them.
My overall goal as a teacher is to help my students connect to their natural musicality and cultivate it to enjoy for life!
Location
Lessons are held in person in my home studio in Torrance, CA (Walteria region, near PCH and Crenshaw).
Zoom lessons are also available for piano lessons with certain considerations.
Duration and Frequency
Lessons are offered at durations of 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. Lesson rates are available if you contact me.
The ideal commitment for music learning is a weekly lesson on a consistent time and day. I am unable to offer lessons without a committed weekly time, with the exception of the first lesson, which is considered a trial prior to commitment.
